Three things to think over before you apply
So your birthday is coming up and you can hardly stand it. Not everyone is lucky enough to get an MTV Sweet 16 birthday bash, but all you really need is a birthday cake, right? You’re out-of-your-mind-excited for your first job because along with work comes a healthy dose of independence. Here are the most common questions we get about getting your first job:
1. How early should I apply? While being prepared is important, there is such a thing as too early. A lot of people will tell you “it’s never too early” to apply for jobs, but that’s not entirely true. While it’s never too early to start looking for jobs, hold off on the applications until you’re a little closer to your start date. As a good rule of thumb, don’t apply for a job more than 4 weeks before you can start.
2. What kind of job should I apply for? It really depends on what you like. Think about things you like to do. If you love meeting new people, you’d probably be great in a cashier job or a sales associate job. If you love to work in the kitchen, a restaurant job would be a great option for you.
3. How much will I get paid? There’s no reason to beat around the bush: the best part of the job is getting paid. You’re probably eager to know how much you’ll be making, so do the research on your expected salary before you apply. If the pay range isn’t what you’re expecting, keep looking.
